Update, 6/21 - And the winner is…Comment #20. Doris is the winner of the pizza party. Congrats to Doris, and thanks to everyone who entered.
Yes, you read that correctly – Frozen. Naked. Pizza. Party. (Will Internet censors block this post?)
Frozen Naked Pizza is the brand name of a line of frozen pizzas that aim to be healthier than traditional pizzas – and they’re surprisingly tasty, too. Instead of your usual overly processed, white-flour pizza crust, the Frozen Naked crusts are made with oats, brown rice, buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth, teff, spelt, tapioca, and two kinds of wheat; plus agave fiber, probiotics, and prebiotics. One serving size (1/2 of a frozen cheese pizza) contains an impressive 7 grams of fiber and 19 grams of protein.
Given that our kids (like most kids) gravitate toward soft, white bread products, we thought it would be interesting to give this one a try. So we hosted a little Frozen Naked Pizza tasting party for our kids and their friends to test what their reactions would be. We had eight kids (ranging in age from five to ten) and five adults along for the ride and we took the opportunity to get as much feedback as we could before the pizza was all gone.
Observations: Every single kid liked the pizza, and no kid mentioned that they noticed anything different about the crust. In fact, the crust doesn’t really taste too much different from most other pizza crusts; it cooks up nice and crispy and doesn’t taste grain-y at all.
We took an informal survey (you were allowed to vote more than once) and the (uncured) pepperoni was the most popular, followed by cheese and then chicken.
The “superbiotic” (7-veggie pizza) came in a distant last, even though it was a favorite of all of the moms. Nevertheless, it was hard to get any kind of scientific results because the kids were eating the pizzas as fast as they came out of the oven. At one point we spotted an enthusiastic ten-year-old with a slice of pizza in each hand declaring, “I love them all!”

Blogger disclosure note: Frozen Naked Pizza sent us several pizzas to sample; our family tried some and then we bought more for the party. We only support those foods that we would buy ourselves at home.

Love the idea – it’s so hard to get the kiddo to eat “good” food – boy, quinoa is really popping up everywhere!

Already love Jolly Tomato on FB
I will eat pizza if it’s made of shoe rubber. Just the word pizza causes a Pavlovian drool.
How fun! Great summer activity – hope we win!
ha! ha! I love fooling the kids to eat something healthy!
Would love to try this out with the kids. They love pizza and a more healthy version sounds wonderful.
