About

What should your kids be eating – and will they eat it? Some parents seem to have it easy with omnivores who will lick up every last morsel on their plates, while others struggle with getting their kids to eat anything that isn’t white or beige. And then just when you think you’ve got a pretty good thing going, you read about a new study showing that in fact your kid is eating the “wrong” foods.

At Jolly Tomato, our goal is to bring the fun and pleasure back into mealtime, while helping your kids get the nutrition they need. We’re writers and researchers, but we’re first and foremost parents who want to figure out how get their kids on the right track. So come on in, pull up a chair, and join in. Your best meals are yet to come.

Founder Jeanne Ponessa Fratello began her career as a reporter focusing first on Congressional policy, and later on education policy. She then spent more than ten years as a speechwriter for higher education leaders. An active blogger since 2005 she writes both the Jolly Tomato and South Bay Sparkle, a Los Angeles-area events and attractions blog. She is also an active freelance writer and a regular contributor to The Huffington Post, CBS Los Angeles online, and MomsLA.

Jeanne lives in Southern California with her husband and two young sons, all of whom are somewhat picky eaters. She spends way too much time in the kitchen, cooking, cajoling, and trying to get everyone to love food as much as she does.
