German Purple Cabbage

 

1 medium purple cabbage, shredded

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup white vinegar

1 cup water

Salt to taste

1/4 tsp. pepper

4 slices bacon, cut in small pieces

Place all ingredients in a large pot. Cook covered for about one hour. Remove cooked cabbage with slotted spoon and serve. Note: Tastes great with German sauerbraten!
